Susan Schiesser

POETIC ABSTRACTION (of landscape):
My primary interest, be it above or below a horizon, is a lyrical and poetic abstraction of land and sea. My pieces often start with an exploration of a specific shape. In finding a compelling set of imagery, I spend time reviewing the variability of characteristics and contemplate functional properties before I employ those traditional techniques of classical drawing studies, moving forward by adhering to most of the principles of traditional landscape painting, leaving ample room for change and happenstance.
I really love to paint and find joy in the simplest of things. I like color, preferring a strong palette and am inclined to face off the two snarling dogs of abstraction and realism on the same panel.
Turning a two year program at the San Francisco Art Institute into four+, combined with continued private studies with a stellar list of amazing professors, I learn and evolve as an artist every day.
Goal: a visual and intuitive communication with the viewer... to elicit some mutual connection to creativity. Non-verbal communication.
